FAQ: Personalized Running Plans
What will I actually receive?
- Google Sheets training log with workout instructions for each day with a place for your notes
- A PDF of the plan suitable for printing for handy reference
- A PDF with more guidance on your plan
- Beginner programs and those who buy in January will have 1 or 2 Skype coaching sessions to use before or during the program
Which race distances are the plans for?
I can build plans for any race distance you choose (1 mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon, etc) or combinations of races (like double races). Plans for marathons and ultras do cost more because they take a bit longer to create.
Also, your plan doesn’t have to be based around a race. You can ask for a plan to get fitter, faster, build a solid running foundation, or any other goal!
How long will my plan be?
Since I build every plan from scratch, their length varies. Most plans fall into the 8-12 week range. Marathon and ultra plans go up higher in the 16-18 week range. Writing plans further out than that really isn’t personal to you anymore – it’s estimations at best.
Can I see examples of some of your plans?
Yes! These are plans made for real people. You’ll find unique goals, individual starting lines, and room for races/other workouts/life.

These are the handy one-page PDFs included in the package, so you won’t find the details of warm ups, cool downs, or instructions of the individual workouts on these sheets. The above are just to give you an idea of the plans I create.
I haven’t started running yet. Are personalized plans for me?
Yes! My Personalized New Runner’s Plan is a perfect jump-start to your new running life. We will start right where you are and use run/walk intervals to get you to your goal – whether that’s run your first 5K (3.1 miles), consistently exercise 3 times a week, or whatever else is in your heart of hearts. The plan includes 1 Skype coaching call to answer the questions that are bound to pop up as a new runner.
I’m not fast. Can I benefit from a custom plan?
Yes! If you’re goal oriented, I can help you improve. Do you want to get faster? Run longer? You don’t have to be ‘fast’ to benefit from a custom-made plan and a little guidance.
I don’t like to race. What’s the point of a custom plan then?
Races are obvious goals, but they aren’t the only goals. Maybe you’re getting bored with the same-old, same-old and would like to try out some new running workouts. Running longer, more often, or happier could be your goal. Personalized plans aren’t just for racers.
Will you revise the plan as necessary?
I know that sometimes training doesn’t go as planned or life gets in the way. I’ll be happy to give you some suggestions through email or any planned coaching sessions on how you can make changes to the plan and/or get back on track, but I won’t completely re-write and re-send the plan.
Will you incorporate my work/travel/life into the training plan?
Of course! That’s a big convenience benefit to a personalized plan. When you fill out the assessment, you’ll be able to tell me about your availability to run during the week and there’s space to tell me about any upcoming vacations or other things that will affect training.
I’ll take it all into account and do the mental gymnastics for you to make a plan that will fit into your busy life.
Do you do any ongoing coaching?
I’m not currently accepting any ongoing clients. However, I do offer à la carte Skype coaching sessions to supplement the personalized plans. If you think you’ll need more support during your training, you can buy a few sessions with your plan or come back and buy them later as needed.
Who is this NOT for?
My personalized plans are not for runners looking for daily review of their training with constant feedback or coaching. I’ll be here to answer questions through email and an occasional coach call, but otherwise you’ll need to be independent and goal-oriented to make a custom plan work for you.
I am not a triathlon or other multi-sport coach. I can take into account other workouts when building a plan, but the plan will focus only on improving your running.

What’s your return policy?
If you receive the plan and it doesn’t address your needs sufficiently, I’m happy to revise it. And if it’s still not what you were looking for after revisions, I’ll give you a no-hassle full refund.
Can I re-use the plan?
Yes! I’m hoping you’ll be able to add this plan to your collection and draw from it for years to come.
